Windle International pioneered a ground-breaking partnership with York University, University of British Columbia to allow refugees to study for a degree through on-line learning whilst still in the refugee camp.  This programme called the BHER (Borderless Higher Education for Refugees) brings new hope to refugees whose studies had been interrupted by having to flee from conflict, or who have finished secondary schooling but can still not return home.

This concept was then extended to refugees in Uganda where Windle worked in collaboration with the University of Arizona, to provide online degrees in the refugee settlements there.

At present, Windle is working with the University of Utrecht to implement a similar online teacher-training degree scheme in South Sudan.
